Werner Berger was born in Switzerland in the picturesque town of Werdenberg. He started his culinary career in Rapperswil and graduated at the hotel school in St. Gallen in 1964. After a few jobs around Switzerland, he spent the next 5 years in Holland, Sweden and Norway. In 1970 he joined the Oberoi Hotel in Singapore as Executive Sous Chef. In the following years, he held Executive Chef positions at The Peninsula Hotel Hongkong and The Hyatt Hotel in Teheran along the Caspian Sea before moving to the Regent Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. In 1977 Werner Berger moved to Manila as Executive Chef of the Philippine Airlines until 1984 when he decided to put up what is now Euro-Swiss Food Inc. together with some partners. In 1987, Werdenberg Intl. Corp. of which he is President and Santis Delicatessen opened for business.
