LTB WACS World Chefs Without Borders - Yolanda Relief Fund Report

Dear Chefs and Friends,

Greetings from LTB Philippines Chefs Association!

Due to the unprecedented destruction caused by Super Typhoon Yolanda to the Visayas region last November 8, 2013 an immense amount of monetary aid was raised by our fellow chefs worldwide through the World Chefs without Borders (WCWB) office of the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS).Together with contributions from LTB Philippines Chefs Association members and friends almost P1500,000.00 has been raised to date. With the assistance of Chef Raki Urbina of Cafe Laguna Cebu LTB Philippines Chefs Association partnered with the LH Foundation and Gawad Kalinga Cebu in their Roof for Relief Project which helps by providing roofing materials for the homes damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda.P5000 is enough to provide roofing materials 1.5 homes. It is estimated that the funds raised by LTB Phils. and WACS can provide roofing materials for around 450 homes.

Last January 15, 2014, LTB Chefs Fernando Aracama, James Antolin, Raki Urbina, myself and WCWB founding chairman Willment Leong travelled to Borbon, Northern Cebu to inspect some of the beneficiary homes. As you can see from the photos the area is very rural and isolated. The red roofing materials on houses were provided by LTB Phils-WCWB. We observed that the houses in these areas were made of light materials. The locals mentioned that they are hardly hit by typhoons, much less super typhoons hence their houses are not usually made with cement and hollow blocks. They were quite happy to receive new quality roofs for their homes.

We would like to thank all of you who have contributed to this cause either through your lump sum donations or through participating in LTB Philippines Chefs Association events.LTB Phils. donated a total of P250,000.00 to Roof for Relief while WCWB made an initial donation of Euros 14,619.77 and USD 7,960.60

Please find attached the official report of WCWB Founding Chairman Willment Leong and pictures from the visit to Borbon, Cebu. Please spend a minute reviewing all the donors so we can thank them personally when we see them at the Philippine Culinary Cup 2014.

What happened last November 8 was a great tragedy for everyone, however it is very heartwarming to see the whole world of chefs come together to help.Thank you all for your kindness and generosity during this difficult time.Maraming salamat at mabuhay po kayo!

Sincerely,

J. Gamboa
